George King Headshot

George King has served as a public school educator for the past 40 years both as a classroom teacher and campus principal.

Almost all of those years have been in service to Plano ISD at the middle school, high school and senior high school levels. George earned his bachelor of arts degree at Stephen F. Austin State University majoring in history, government, and education. He earned his masters degree in educational administration at the University of North Texas. As campus principal, George collaborated with colleagues on the important issues facing public education including school accountability, college, career and military readiness, school district strategic planning, campus and district improvement planning, and meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse student community. Upon retiring in June 2023, George began work as an adult education instructor at Grayson College.

Education permeates through the King household, as his wife Margie served as a choral director and school guidance counselor for 41 years. Their daughter Peyton is now in her sixth year serving as an elementary school teacher. The family enjoys traveling anywhere, though their greatest love is hiking in the U.S. National Park system.

Why I’m running for State Board of Education…

The challenges facing public education in Texas today have grown more complex. Issues such as the safety/security of our school-age children, school funding/finance, and the politicization of curriculum call for an experienced voice in Texas school leadership. I believe my career in service to education can offer a depth and breadth of understanding to the membership of the State Board of Education.

Our current school age generation enjoys attending campuses with classmates representing a rich tapestry of cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. It is imperative that we cultivate an inclusive curriculum where all children feel safe and no student or group is diminished.

The Texas Constitution is clear in safeguarding the interests of local school districts and in the mission of providing free, efficient public education to Texans. These philosophical tenets serve as inspiration in my decision to serve on the State Board of Education.

As a student of history and government, I remain inspired by our nation’s representative form of democracy. I believe in the interdependency and partnership of government leaders to their constituents. If elected, I promise to listen and represent the needs of all school age children, their families and our communities.
